This website is mainly about the situation in England and Wales, which is where ASS, and the law we know about, cover. However of course the act of squatting/occupying/trespassing on unoccupied land is something that occurs the world over.
Squat!Net
The headquarters if you will of all things squatting in Europe, squat!net provides multi-lingual news updates on actions across the continent (and further abroad). It is also host to the Radar events calendar.
Radar
The events calendar hosted by squat!net, Radar lists events of all kinds across mostly European countries, but also world-wide. A crucial starting point when arriving somewhere new and looking for ways to engage with different movements.
Squat The Planet
There has for many years been a forum up at Squat The Planet which is perhaps US-centric, but has sub-forums for all regions of the globe.
These are the most useful if you are based in the UK or Europe. But squatting is a global phenomenon, and in other places can be more of a grass-roots movement of the less privileged than it is here. Some examples of note:
Abahlali baseMjondolo
Abahlali baseMjondolo (The Residents of the Shacks) is a movement of the poor in South Africa. Fighting and dying for 20 years against violent repression by government and private developers, they comprise of 150,000 people organising autonomously.
Bangladesh Krisok Federation/Sabha
BKF/BKS have been working together for the rights of landless people in Bangladesh through occupations, demonstrations, and legal aid service.
There are of course many other examples, too many for this website, but the Wikipedia page on Squatting is surprisingly comprehensive and information can be found about notable squats or wider movements in many regions around the world.
